International Boundary and Water Commission Meeting 

Agua Prieta, 8/6/19

The City of Douglas participated in a meeting hosted by the Mexican counterpart of the International Boundary and Water Commission, or CILA for its initials in Spanish, in Agua Prieta, Sonora. Mayor Robert Uribe and Luis Ramirez, Advisor to the Douglas Regional Economic Development Corporation, provided an update on the activities to date on the US side of the border to advance the Two-Port Solution for Douglas/Agua Prieta.  A specific request was made to have local and state authorities work with the Federal Government of Mexico to push for the investments needed on the Mexican side for the construction of the new port of entry. Attending on behalf of the City of Douglas were, Mayor Uribe, Councilmembers Cesar Soto and Jose Grijalva, along with City Manager Jerene Watson and new Assistant to the City Manager Damian Dorame. Also attending this event was Cochise County Supervisor Ann English. A list of top-level municipal, state and federal representatives from Mexico participated in the meeting, including: the Municipality of Agua Prieta, Municipal Water Department (OOMAPAS), National Water Commission of Mexico, Mexico’s Customs Service (Aduanas), Water Commission of the State of Sonora, and the Department of Defense of Mexico, among others.
