Public Notice: Bay Acres Public Hearing

The public is invited to a Public Hearing to inform them of the infrastructure improvements that are scheduled to begin within the next 6 to 12 months relative the wastewater collection and installation of appurtenances for the treatment systems for the Bay Acres Community and the City of Douglas. The Bay Acres Sewer Collection System Improvement project consists of installing over 26,000 linear feet of new wastewater collection lines, decommissioning of 370 septic tanks and connecting those homes to sewer, expansion of the City of Douglas wastewater treatment plant capacity from 2.0 million gallons per day to 2.6 million gallons per day as well as improvements to effluent quality at the City of Douglas Wastewater Treatment Plant. Your opportunity to obtain project information and to provide public comments regarding the Bay Acres Sewer Collection System Project will be November 15, 2018, at 6:00 p.m. at the Sunnyside Fire Department, 3359 N. Washington Avenue, Douglas, AZ. Members of the public are invited and are encouraged to attend this meeting in order to express their comments and to learn more about this project. In addition, the City of Douglas will inform the attending public of the following important concepts: 1. The City of Douglas, through a grant awarded by USDA and funding by the State Water Infrastructure Authority (WIFA) will be providing connections to City sewer service at no cost to Bay Acres residents. Connection at no cost to home owners includes line connection to the home, restoration of properties and sewer line connection to the sewer main. 2. The monthly service cost for ongoing sewer service after the initial connection to residential will be $32.02 and $52.03 for commercial sites in Bay Acres. 3. Bay Acres property owners shall be required to sign a Sewer User Agreement and Construction Easements in order to carry out and perform the project construction, sewer connections and agreements to pay a monthly user fee added to their existing water bill. The public’s participation and support is essential in getting this project approved and certified. The City of Douglas will make reasonable accommodations and services necessary for disabled citizens at the public meeting. Additionally, translation services may be offered upon request and availability.
