Author Reading: Aaron Bobrow-Strain, "The Death and Life of Aida Hernandez: A Border Story"

Wednesday, September 18, 2019

Frontera de Cristo and the Douglas Public Library present “An Evening with Author Aaron Bobrow-Strain” on Wednesday, September 18, at 6:00pm at the Douglas Visitor Center. His book, "The Death and Life of Aida Hernandez: A Border Story," is the harrowing life story of “Aida Hernandez,” taken across the border by her mother at age eight from Agua Prieta, Mexico, to Douglas, Arizona. Following her from the borderlands of her childhood to her New York City adulthood, and taking us into detention centers, immigration courts, and the inner lives of Aida and other daring characters, this book reveals the human consequences of militarizing what was once a more forgiving border. Dr. Bobrow-Strain is a professor of politics at Whitman College and an immigration rights activist who first connected with the border when he worked for BorderLinks in Douglas in the 1990s. For further information, contact the Library at (520) 417-7359 or (520) 417-7352.
